Tenet Varsity (Training Business Unit of Tenet Technetronics) team had visited Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amritha University), Coimbatore to deliver a lecture as well as training on the usage of Universal Software Defined Radio Platform.
The intent of the visit was to have training sessions on Software Defined Radio (SDR) for students from Electronics and communication branch. The session spanned across two days and it was well admitted received by students as well as the faculty community. It was great fun to interact with students, professors and researchers.
First day of the session started with installation and configuration of Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) with different daughter boards and also enabling all the PCs in the Labs with the relevant software to get started with GNU radio as well as the USRPs.
Second day started with the presentation on Software Defined Radio (SDR) to introduce the audience on Software Radio concepts and also the terminologies involved and get an overall understanding of the Software Defined Radio.
In continuation with the theoritical lectures we then went on to demonstrate applications like aircraft surveillance using satellite navigation, FM Transmission, communication between two USRPs thereby striking the chord with the students who are exposed to some of the fundamentals of signal systems, communication and synchronizing USRP’s using MIMO in their curriculum.
At the end of the day we closed the session with a good note that we had delivered what we had set out as an objective for the training program. We are quite confident that the USRP platforms that the university has bought would be put to optimum use to come up with some break through innovations in the coming years !
