Tenet Technetronics’ XBee Explorer Regulated break –out board translates the 5V serial signals to 3.3V serial signal, so that any XBee module can be connected to a 5V system directly. This XBee Explorer Regulated also takes care of signal conditioning, and basic activity indicators (Power, RSSI and DIN/DOUT activity LEDs).
This XBee Explorer Regulated works with all XBee modules including the Series 1 and 2, standard and Pro versions. You just need to plug an XBee module into this breakout and you will have direct access to the serial and programming pins on the XBee unit and will be able to power the XBee with 5V.
This XBee Explorer Regulated board comes fully populated with 3.3V regulator (12V max input), XBee socket, four status LEDs, and level shifting. In the latest revision the diode level shifter is replaced with a more robust MOSFET level shifter.
Here is a quick demo on how to establish a communication between two XBee devices using this XBee Explorer Regulated break out board.
Hardware Required:
- XBee Explorer Regulated.
- USB to SERIAL cable.
- XBee modules.
Step 1:
Plug XBee modules into the breakouts so that you can have direct access to the serial and programming pins on the XBee unit and will be able to power the XBee with 5V.
Step 2:
Now connect the ‘USB to Serial cable’ with one end to connected to the computer and other end as following
Step 3:
Launch X-CTU software, click on Add on radio modules and select the appropriate serial port that gets assigned to the Serial to USB device.
Repeat same steps for other XBee module.
Step 4:
Click on “switch to consoles working mode” and then click on “open the serial connection with radio modules”.
Now switch to other XBee module by clicking the other XBee device tab, and click on “open the serial connection with radio modules”.
Step 5:
Now enter the data in console logs of XBee devices, and observe that data gets exchanged between the modules.
