This week i spent some time playing with the new sensational device that the folks at Leap motion have put together for gesture recognition. At the outset the experience of using this tool was awesome. The leap sensor as i will refer during this entire blog comes in a neatly packaged box with all the necessary cables to kick start your next experiment/project with it.
The manufacturers website captures a whole lot of details on what this sensor is capable of and also demonstrates some cool videos to show the little sensor in action. For more info visit their website at

Now the good news for all the developers out there reading this blog is that the manufacturer provides a very well documented SDK that makes application development a cake walk. In this blog i plan to demonstrate one such option that exists and in future blogs i plan to build some more apps and may be demonstrate and put a getting started kind of guide.
For this blog i chose the processing library that is available freely on the processing IDE contributed by the community (Kudos to the community and credits to the author) and added couple of lines more to open up some possibilities to interface some external hardware like the Arduino, Ethernet shield ..etc
I have put together instructions on creating a simple processing app and captured instructions on how to install as well as get the app up and running in a document. The download url is provided below. The code involved is also provided at the end of the document.

Now as further steps i leave it to the readers to take the code and hook it onto hardwares or softwares ..etc
some ideas i can envision are:
* Connecting an Arduino and building some gesture controlled circuits.
* Connecting softwares like Matlab/Simulink/Scilab/Python to the TCP port on which the app sends the interpreted sensor data.
Stay tuned to the blogspot as i plan to write more on this sensor as and when i discover more on this device !
