Its been like a great change in the past 1 year that we have been experiencing in the education system and especially in the engineering front. A lot of engineering schools are starting to realize the need for an out of the box learning process and are slowly collaborating with industries/labs to make sure students get the optimum exposure to real world problems as well as a way to approach them when they will set out to work.
One such college where we have been trying to get our open source workshop is BNMIT !We are having this setup in the coming week !
How did it all start ?
Tenet always believes in a experimental learning and learning through research/debate and always remained off the academic track !Having said that we believe that if given a chance in an academic environment we can always try to bring out the geek in a few students which we love doing ! One of the guys at Tenet came up with an idea saying why don’t we conduct these workshops onsite in a college to make sure students are in the environment which they are used to regularly and try/make them feel that its a great place with lot of tools/equipment to use to tinker and learn ! Now that is where it all started !
Is it easy to conduct a workshop at a college in India ?
Its been a tough job for our marketing/sales team to set clear expectations ! get the documentation in place ! Convince the model of the workshop to the lecturers/professors ! Analyzing the currrent knowledge on hardware of students !
Above all ,the process involved to get approvals as always involves a lot of wait time ! (Tenet is a more impatient group in terms of these ). Its a difficult task !!!!
Nevertheless if there are folks out there who want us to know how it could be easily approached !Please feel free to write to us and we will be more than happy to send you a gift if your idea clicks !!
What can i learn when you attend this workshop ?
- Application of basic electronics !How a switch/led ..etc can do a lot of things in real life.
- Microcontrollers and demysitfying the way to program them !
- Playing with the Comet – Our own Indian Arduino
- Demonstrations of various crazy sensors(Accelerometers/temperature/alcohol ..etc)
- Building a simple navigation robot ( Motors/Remote controls ) ..etc
- Visualizing data using processing !
and much more …
What are the common question from most of the colleges ?
Do you provide a certificate for completing a workshop ?
Nope ! hmmmm … may be we could … but how does that make sense !
This workshop would atleast help the students build their own gadgets and also show them a path on where to look out for information and make them use and also interact with a whole large community in the world that can help them out !
For Example :
You may build :
- A tweeting home cooker !!
- A low cost motion sensitive lighting/greeting system for your house !
- Build a remote control for your TV .
- Build your own toy for a kid !…etc
Which year student should attend these sessions ?
hmmmm….. May be 1st,2nd,3rd ,4th , faculties …… yes any one who has a passion to build a system is fine to attend !
The minimum requirements are the creativity, passion as well as desire to learn and playaround with electronics.
A minimum exposure to usage of computers and also some programming would be a great plus but logical thinking should be fine to replace programming !
Last but not least ! We are excited to see a new bunch of fresh enthusiatic bunch of folks from BNMIT and we will make sure our visit will atleast make a little change in the way you think once some body sees some systems/gadgets that you see in real world !
We are Extremely thankful to the faculties/HODs Organizing members at BNMIT as well as students who enrolled as well as who did not (For keeping the class strength low and giving us opportunity to talk to each of them individually and spend time )!
If you are a student/faculty and want to conduct a similar session in your college . Please get in touch with us at info@tenettech.com
