In the ever increasing use of electronic systems today there is a considerable amount of parts that can be reused rather than discarding the whole product itself.
This not only makes sure we end up reducing electronic waste but also come up with concepts on how we could design stuffs and also increases the creativity to start thinking radically to reuse waste. With this goal in mind one of the Developers at TENET analyzed the waste that we had to initiate the process.
See the picture below. It is a Liquid Crystal Display. It has been reported malfunctioning and has been returned by one our customers. Over a period of time we have accumulated some of these and fortunately we had them lying around in our lab.
Now this lead us to back track and go back to lessons at school that explained how a LCD works!!
One of the things that struck us is that back light was robust and was still glowing bright. Also available were some SMD resistors that are always useful for our production and hacking.
Now that we got to know there is some benefit in reworking the whole piece we started our training to our new hire technical engineer to de solder these out from the LCD using the Hot Air rework station.
The picture is shown below
It is the equipment for soldering and desoldering SMD (Surface Mound IC package). Using this Hot Air Gun, just blow the air on the resistor, as shown below.
Picking out the resistors using a tweezer.
These SMD resistors can be used for other circuits. Then just remove the backlight of the LCD as shown below.
Now the backlight is removed, it can used for any purpose like lighting project of yours where you find them fit.
If you have some electronic waste and don’t know what to do then talk to us and lets figure out some application to it rather than throwing out.
